Shakespeare in the Garden
Shakespeare in the Garden, a joint venture of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden (Clayton Bass, CEO), Shakespeare in Santa Fe (Rachel Kelly, Artistic Director), and The Shakespeare Guild (John F. Andrews, President), presents one classic per season in a setting that is notable for its picturesque views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
With a company that features both established professionals and a vibrant cadre of younger artists (among them gifted students from institutions such as NYU's Tisch School of the Arts), Shakespeare in the Garden offers meticulously-researched and imaginatively-directed productions of favorites such as The Tempest (2017) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (2018). And it does so in surroundings that encourage attendees to arrive early and enjoy festive Renaissance music while they picnic among native plants and curated sculpture exhibits.
Shakespeare in the Garden is eager to work with other organizations that share the company’s commitment to engaging performances and to creative arts-education programs. It’s also dedicated to building larger and more cultivated audiences for the globe’s leading playwright. To that end it has established a Bardtenders support group to help strengthen Theatre Santa Fe’s burgeoning menu of culturally-enriching opportunities.
