Red Thread Santa Fe
Red Thread Santa Fe Productions is the successor to The Red Thread Collective, Inc., a 501c3 theatre production company that presented work in Santa Fe from 2001 to 2012. The RTC was founded by producer Walter Dilts, playwright Craig Barnes, and a group of actors who came together in Walter’s production of Craig’s first assay as a playwright, Queen Elizabeth I.
Originally conceived as a permanent company of actors, the organization evolved into a non-profit production company led by board chairman/producer Walter Dilts, resident playwright Craig Barnes, and the sole remaining actor, Tone Forrest, serving at various times as Executive, Artistic, and Managing Director as well as production manager for all of the shows. The company had a critically successful eleven-year run, producing more than a dozen full-stage productions and staged readings at El Museo Cultural’s theater space in the Santa Fe Railyard, including Barnes’ QEI trilogy, an original musical titled Aucassin and Nicolette, a mock trial of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld triumvirate titled A Nation Deceived (starring Ed Asner) and culminating with Barnes’ call-to-action social/political commentary, We Are People Here!
Barnes had founded a grassroots activist organization with that name and it replaced the 501c3 organization that had been the RTC in 2012. But Walter Dilts and Tone Forrest have determined that there is lots of room for more high-quality theatre in Santa Fe and have formed the new company to continue the RTC’s mission: to help put Santa Fe on the map as a worthy destination for theatre tourism. We are all excited to see that Theatre Santa Fe has also taken up the mantle of that mission and are looking forward to tasting the fruits of that collaborative venture.
