The New Mexico National New Deal Preservation Association, in partnership with the Adobe Rose Theatre, presents a dramatic reading of the Sinclair Lewis play, It Can’t Happen Here.

The semi-satirical 1936 play, adapted from the novel by Sinclair Lewis and John C. Moffit, tells the shocking story of the United States in the iron grip of a native-born American dictator.

A reading that is just as relevant now as it was then in its action-motivating and critical political message following the 2016 American Presidential election outcome. We look forward to sharing this evening with you.

Read by Santa Fe notables, it’s a night of political satire you cannot miss!

IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE is a play by one of our most distinguished American Writers. It is about American life today, based on a passionate belief in American democracy. The play says that when dictatorship comes to threaten such a democracy, it comes in an apparently harmless guise, with parades and promises; but that when such dictatorship arrives, the promises are not kept and the parade grounds become encampments.
