Winning the Future

  • Adobe Rose Theater 1213 Parkway Drive Santa Fe, NM, 87507 United States (map)

Up & Down Theatre Company presents their satirical musical cabaret Winning the Future at Adobe Rose Theater.

Written by and starring Kate Chavez and Lindsey Hope Pearlman alongside Santa Fe jazz piano favorite Robin Holloway, Winning the Future is equal parts political satire, sketch comedy, and musical theatre. A playful, eclectic evening of original sketches and songs about America—where we are and where we’re headed. Three performers examine the political, economic, and social circumstances of our times in a hilarious take on what it means to be American in 2016.

The Santa Fe based trio’s comedic and musical send up of Donald Trump’s campaign slogan MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN recently went viral on Facebook and YouTube, earning more than 2.5 million views. The video was shared by the distribution platform Occupy Democrats and is a finalist in the MoveOn.org “Laughter Trumps Hate” Competition.

Winning the Future has been performed annually in Santa Fe since Fall 2012, as well as in New York City and across the Southwest. Learn more about the trio at UpandDownTheatre.com.

“Truly funny commentary…”- Sage Lazarro, The New York Observer

“Winning the Future is like having tantric sex while eating a chocolate sundae . . . if their goal was simply to write infectious songs that leave you smiling uncontrollably, they would have succeeded, but they do so much more—they take complicated (and important) ideas, and turn them into laughter and melody. . . . Imagine putting Monty Python, ABBA, and Schoolhouse Rock into a blender—that is Winning the Future.”
—Duncan North, creator of The Tao of Steve

“Move over, JibJab & the Capitol Steps. There’s a new political satire theatre troupe in town. . . . It might be a disaster out there, but it’s hilarious in here.”
—Adam Rubenstein, The Underground Guide To Albuquerque
